Following a magical welcome dinner at Marble House, Amita and Joey were married at Castle Hill in Newport. The first part of the day included a traditional groom’s barat. I remember in 2010, when I first photographed a barat. I remember saying “this is the best wedding I’ve ever been to and it hasn’t even started yet!” If you’ve never experienced this dramatic entrance by the groom — often by horse, car, or even elephant — it’s a treat. This groom’s parade gets everyone excited and allows the guests to participate in the festivities. For his barat, Joey made his entrance on a horse with traditional Indian drummers and music.
The mandap created for their ceremony was out of this world. The heaps of flowers transformed Castle Hill’s ceremony area. After a dress change and during a break in the rain, we went to the lighthouse for more portraits.
