Over the next few weeks I’ll be featuring some of my favorite Boston, Cape Cod, and Newport wedding venues. These are venues at which I’ve photographed multiple times. They are all outstanding in terms of their environment, service, and the overall wedding experience that they’ve created for my clients. I thought it would be interesting to talk about their features, especially as it relates to photography, and to show how the venues have looked at different weddings. Here, I’m featuring Belle Mer weddings in Newport, Rhode Island.
Belle Mer Weddings
Kicking off the series is Belle Mer in Newport, Rhode Island. Situated on Goat Island in Newport, Belle Mer is a waterfront property located on Narragansett Bay. I first photographed at Belle Mer in 2010 and have since returned several times to photograph both outdoor and indoor wedding ceremonies. I love Belle Mer for its seaside location, open and modern architectural space, and options for photographing in natural light both outdoors and indoors. While we’ve had great weather every time I’ve photographed here, Belle Mer’s bright and natural light-filled space allows for beautiful portraits done indoors on rainy days.
Belle Mer consists of multiple spaces: the Island House, Loft, Ocean Lawn, and the Water Salon. The Belle Mer weddings I’ve photographed took place in all of these areas.
The Water Salon
Most of the weddings I’ve photographed at Belle Mer have taken place at the Water Salon. This large and elegant space seats up to 280 guests for dinner and dancing. It’s a dream to photograph in this space, as large glass doors and glass walls offer beautiful views. Flowing white sheer drapes let in lots of natural light.
Belle Mer’s Island House is located next door to the Water Salon. It has an elegant yet laid-back and relaxed feel. Like the Water Salon, the Island House has a landscaped waterfront lawn area with shell paths.
